  West Central® Culture

Striving to be the partner of choice for today’s producer, West Central has been committed to area farmers for 75 years.

Outstanding Growers
West Central members have the knowledge, experience and technology to produce abundant yields of high quality corn and soybeans, regardless of weather stress, pests and harvest conditions. West Central customers utilize the latest in technology and GPS accessibility, and many of the cooperative’s growers are at the forefront of testing and adopting new crop production technology.

Central Iowa Location
Located in America’s heartland, and at the epicenter of our country’s corn and soybean production, West Central ships grain on three rail lines, the BNSF Railway, Iowa Interstate and the Union Pacific. Seven of West Central’s 18 locations are equipped to ship unit-trains carrying 110-cars of locally produced grain to end-users across the country. When marketing locally produced grain, West Central represents its members in markets as diverse as the Pacific Northwest and the Gulf, to nationally recognized poultry producers and the dairy region of California, even west Texas cattle feeders.

Corporate Values
In today’s world of fast business transactions and daily national and international dealings, West Central remains grounded in their four cornerstone values – quality, professionalism, integrity and innovation. These values have long served as the foundation of all West Central partnerships and alliances. West Central’s corporate culture is driven by creating extra value for our members and by never compromising on our cornerstone values. It’s been this way for 75 years, and it will continue to be this way for the next 75 years.

Professional Attitude
West Central is committed to being the partner of choice for today’s producer. Our goal is to assist our members in succeeding through mutually beneficial partnerships. The professionalism of West Central’s employees is guided by the cooperative’s four cornerstone values, and reinforced daily.

Commitment to Research
Steadfast in remaining abreast of the latest in technology and agricultural developments, West Central commissions and funds dozens of research projects with major U.S. companies and research institutions. Many of West Central’s value-added products are the direct result of these cooperative research efforts.

Cooperative Structure
West Central is a locally owned cooperative. Our owners consist of more than 3,500 farmers spread throughout west central Iowa. The company continues to grow because of its success at serving and benefiting its customers. When you partner with West Central, you are partnering with the growers and producers who own the company.

Financial Strength
Since its inception in 1933, West Central has carefully managed capital and steadily expanded its investment in fixed assets. The cooperative endeavors to be a good steward of its member’s assets. West Central’s prudent financial management has resulted in powerful resilience and staying power throughout times of adversity, and exponential, well-designed growth.

Quality Facilities
Throughout its history, West Central has continually looked toward the future with facility improvements. The result of this forward thinking is one of the most sophisticated and efficient high-volume grain handling operations in America. Today, West Central is among the 16 largest grain companies in the U.S. More than 80 million bushels of grain are marketed through the co-op and over 9 million bushels of soybeans are processed in West Central’s state-of-the-art soybean processing facilities. West Central elevators employ the latest in technology to ensure quick and convenient loading and unloading of grain. This includes the automation of inbound, segregation and loading activities.

Multiple Locations
With 18 locations, West Central is able to take advantage of transportation on three major rail lines, and two interstate highways. Multiple locations also allow the company to site specialized operations and expansions at particular West Central locations, best suited to the task. For example, in 2006 West Central constructed a hub fertilizer plant at its Templeton location, taking full advantage of the benefits offered by its location on the BNSF Railway. Furthermore, West Central’s multiple locations allow the cooperative to utilize cross efficiencies between the various divisions and to make the most of assets available between locations based upon demand.

Corporate Mission
West Central was integrating and living its cornerstone values long before customer focus and corporate values were popular. Our mission was simple, to serve our members and customers with the latest technology and information available, and to create the greatest value for the products they produce.
